
Salma Hayek Pinault born Salma Valgarma Hayek-Jimenez (born September 2, 1966)[3][4][5] is a Mexican and American actress and film producer. Her professional career began in Mexico which she played in the television drama Teresa (1989-1991), and the romantic drama El Callejon de los Milagros (1995) which was a huge success and earned her an Ariel Award nomination. She quickly made herself known in Hollywood through appearances in films such as Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999) as well as Dogma (1999). Hayek's portrayal as Frida, the painter, in Frida (2002) in which she also wrote in the film, resulted in Hayek the first Mexican actress to receive the Academy Award [6]. In addition, it earned her an Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and British Academy Film Award nominations. Hayek continued to produce as well as starring in action films like Once Upon a Time in Mexico in the years following.
