Kellie Pickler is among "American Idol's" greatest contestants, even though she did not win the title. Her birth name was Kellie Dawn Pickler the 28th of June 1986 at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. Her mother was only sixteen when she fell expecting her. It was a difficult childhood for Pickler as her father was addicted to alcohol and prescription drugs while Pickler's mother had left her at the age of 2. Morton was able to gain the custody of Pickler for two years. But, Pickler acknowledged that not all went as planned. "I was in the kitchen with my mother when I asked her: 'I would rather die than stay here.' She pulled out a kitchen knife set it down on the countertop, and said to me, "Here, you do it." I was in fourth grade. The girl said "Of of course, I wouldn't had done anything to change it. However, it's been a long time since I've had emotional scars." Pickler ended up being given to her grandparents by the court when she reached 12 years old. Morton failed to appear for the hearing. Pickler, who cites her grandparents as major influential figures throughout her life was a child of the grandparents. In January 2002, her grandmother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. Pickler was raised by her grandfather. Pickler has graduated from the North Stanly High School in New London (North Carolina).
